Ellie’s Valentines

12 February 2012

Valentine’s Day is only a few days away and Ellie has requested that we make “Balendine’s” for all her friends. She’s at such a fun age right now; she’s constantly making me laugh. We love doing projects together, and I, of course, wanted to do something at least a little bit handmade.

Using heart shaped doilies, I made little pockets by sewing two hearts together back to back using the zig-zag stitch on my Sewing Machine.

Ellie added a sticker to this one.

Then we filled them with tissue wrapped goodies.

We closed them off with a ribbon, and after adding the gift tag…voila!  Simple.

Her favorite job was crossing off names from the list as I wrote the gift tags…and she also let me know which kids play with each other.  “Preston is Adam’s friend, mommy.” “Holly is only MY friend, not the other kids.” “I don’t like that other boy, he hits me.” (Hmmm…that one made me mad; I almost crossed the kid off the list! )

Happy Valentine’s Day a couple days early!

Spring is Coming

5 February 2012

After such a mild winter, it hardly seems like it’s time for spring to be poking out, but coming it is.  I’m quite sure that we’ll have another cold snap and all the emerging plants will be fighting off damage from the frost, but for now, I’m enjoying watching the specks of green popping through the soil.

The crocus are right on time, with the first purple blooms letting me know that the other colors will soon be on their way!

These tiny little white blossoms while seemingly insignificant let off the most amazingly delicious fragrance. They’re hidden in the back corner of the garden, so I completely missed them last year.  This year their scent was so incredibly strong, it was almost impossible to not take a minute to sit and enjoy them!

The sunsets have also been pretty much unbelievable. Not bad for a front yard view:
