A “dueling photos” post – heads up for one from Melissa, too.

Ellie’s Dandelions

7 May 2011

I’ll be the first to admit that when it comes to photography, I have no idea what I’m doing.  Most of the time, I have a vision of what I want the photograph to look like, but with no formal training, I struggle with knowing how to adjust things to get what I’m wanting.  I fix most everything on my computer, and am usually fairly satisfied with the results.  I have more than a few shots that I’m pretty proud of – but they’re mostly because of quite a bit of luck and a damn intuitive camera.

And so it was with this shot of Ellie.  We were out in the garden, planting seeds when she spotted a patch of dandelions that were ready for the blowing.  As she huffed and puffed, I snapped away – hoping to catch at least a few blurry swooshes of the dandelion seeds floating away.  When I uploaded the pictures, I couldn’t help bet break out with a big ol’ smile to see that I actually got a couple of shots that I love!

The thing I love so much about the photos with the water hose is the story they tell.  It’s almost as if you can see her thinking!
